New Zealand School of Dance Graduation Season 2015

18-28 November 2015
at New Zealand School of Dance, Wellington
A highlight of the New Zealand School of Dance calendar, the School’s anticipated Graduation Season is set once again to thrill audiences. A long held tradition that marks the year end; these performances offer an intoxicating mix of classical ballet and contemporary choreography.
The Grand Pas from the 19th century ballet Paquita, a major cornerstone of traditional ballet repertoire for companies around the world, is a highlight of the programme. Also featured is George Balanchine’s “gut-busting” ballet interpretation of the non-stop Neopolitan folk dance Tarantella. Being performed for the first time in New Zealand, will be selected pieces from “As It Fades” by renowned Singaporean choreographer Kuik Swee Boon. NZSD graduates Thomas Bradley and Sarah Foster have been commissioned to create original new work for the contemporary dance students. Concluding this eclectic programme is Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s youthful and energetic ballet Concerto. With its cast of 18 women and 11 men, this is the largest work ever presented by the School.

The 2015 season is an opportunity to witness the high calibre of students at NZSD and the results of working with inspirational tutors from both NZ and internationally. These exhilarating performances are an insight into the next generation of professional dancers.

“The dancing was highly disciplined, well rehearsed and excitingly performed.” Dance Europe, Graduation Season 2014
