Youth aged seven to ten are welcome to come along to the National Cub Day activities. “This will be a perfect opportunity for parents to bring their child along to get a taste of what Cubs is all about,” says Waiapu Zone Leader, Rosina Wong-Hughes. There will be fun jungle themed activities set up for the youth to take part in with the Cubs, as well as a table for parents to find out more information.

Cubs is a section of SCOUTS New Zealand for youth in year’s four to six at school (ages 8-10). The Cub Section was set up in 1916. “They continue to have lots of fun,” says Rosina, “taking part in awesome activities like outdoor adventures, camping, bushwalking, outdoor cooking, expeditions, helping their Community, playing games and making loads of friends.”

Cubs have a progressive award scheme in place with the chance to earn a variety of exciting Personal Challenge Badges. “These badges aim to help develop their skills and interests while at the same time making it a fun learning experience,” says Rosina. Some of the badges include swimming, conservation, pet keeping, science, first aid, fishing and using computers.
