Women’s Refuge Whanganui present
An Evening with the Modern Māori Quartet

Modern Māori Quartet (MMQ) are a good looking, suave and multi-talented Māori foursome who love crooning their spin on modern and classic numbers. Accomplished actors/performers James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Jamie McCaskill have come together from different corners of New Zealand to perform their signature cabaret show An Evening with the Modern Māori Quartet at the Royal Wanganui Opera House.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Modern Māori Quartet is a contemporary Māori showband in the vein of popular forebears such as the Hi-Marks, Māori Volcanics Showband, Dalvanius and the Fascinations, Maori Troubadours, Maori Hi Five, Quin Tikis and The Howard Morrison Quartet. Modern Māori Quartet's repertoire includes a wide range of traditional Māori music, which have been given a contemporary treatment, as well as contemporary music that have been imbued with their unique flavour and twist. Their shows promise a trip down memory lane into New Zealand's musical past and present as well as recent international hits, riddled with song, humour and charm.

So suit 'em up in their number ones, shine their shoes, hand them a guitar or two and they’ll have you melting like golden syrup on a piece of fresh hot fried bread with their signature brand of Māori entertainment.

"Billed as the new face of Māori showbands, handsome, hilarious and harmonious, The Modern Māori Quartet is entertainment at its best.” – Melanie Stewart, Theatreview, 19 October 2014.
"Without exception, all their voices show a fine degree of honing and a wide range of good sound, including universally strong falsetto. The show was superbly polished while the presentation retained the air of being improvised.” – Marion Poole, Otago Daily Times, 13 October 2014.
