The Middle Eastern Dance Association of NZ’s Roots and Branches Festival offers dance and drum workshops, theatre and casual performances, social activities, teachers workshops and discussions, and a Sunday Bazaar & Open Stage at St Andrews College in Papanui, Christchurch, 17-19 April 2015.  All dancers, as well as the general public, are welcome.

This years very special international guests have come all the way from Adelaide and Brisbane to teach and perform for us. We are thrilled to welcome the mesmerising Evangeline Feary, Director of Cinnabar Red Dance Collective and professional performance troupe Ruby Dhatura, and the delightful Nerissa, Co-Director, Teacher and Performer at the Queensland Bellydance Academy.

We have crafted a weekend that will offer over 35 workshops, featuring our international key note tutors, progressive workshops with two of our top Kiwi teachers, and an amazing selection of specialist workshops. Covering technique in both oriental and tribal styles for even the newest of dancers, right through to finding tarab and performance troupe/teacher focussed offerings, we really do have something for everyone!

In addition to our splendid Festival show directed by the divine Pip-E-Lysaah and produced by Aaralyn of Tribal Diva, we have provided the opportunity for everyone who attends Festival to don their costume and perform on stage in a supportive dance environment at our Sunday Open Stage - this means that there will be heaps of live belly dance performances to watch over the weekend.

We also have a fun selection of social activities, including a dance party, quiz night and relaxed hafla, plus a full day Bazaar featuring vendors from around the country.

The Festival schedule of activities along with our tutor biographies and workshop descriptions are available at http://www.medanz.org.nz/festival/festival-2015/

We look forward to welcoming you all to Christchurch in 2015!
