Love Birds is an Aotea Great Barrier Island weekend getaway to view native land and sea birds in their pristine natural environment.

On Friday evening enjoy dinner and a talk by Prof. John Ogden (Botanist and Birdwatcher) from Great Barrier Island Environmental Trust on GBI native, sea and migratory birds.

Saturday morning features a boat cruise up the beautiful west coast through the Broken Islands via the Gannet colony. View birds such as Shags, Little Blue Penguin, Grey-faced and Cook's Petrel or Shearwater. Make your way through the Man-O-War passage into stunning Port FitzRoy Harbour where you will enjoy a delicious lunch on board. The afternoon features a guided tour of Glenfern Sanctuary, a safe habitat for threatened species including Black Petrel, Chevron Skink, Cooks Petrel and Brown Teal.
Saturday evening enjoy dinner and a talk by Claudia Mischler, ecologist, Wildlife Management International on the history of, and work they do with, Black Petrel.

On Sunday choose between a guided walk to the summit of Hirakimata with Claudia Mischler to see nesting Black Petrel or visit Whangapoua Beach with Prof. John Ogden to view coastal birds such as Oyster Catchers, Caspian Tern, NZ and Banded Dotterel as well as migratory seabirds.
