This month Zimmerman Art Gallery debuts the work of Nelson-based artist, Lee-Ann Dixon.

Inspired by the collection of treasures in her late mother’s china cabinet, the pieces Dixon has created for this month’s exhibition are meticulously hand-painted on vintage silverware. Birds, teddy bears, moths and animal skulls all feature in Dixon’s petite paintings; small studies that preserve, in paint, fondly remembered possessions and impermanent objects.

“As my life changes, so does my artwork. Mostly it is an ongoing theme of motherhood and domesticity. But as my children grow older, I have more time to reflect and remember my own childhood and identity, and this is reflected in my artworks.”

Born in 1966, Lee-Ann Dixon holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from NMIT (Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology).

The exhibition of Lee-Ann Dixon's works runs from 1 to 30 September 2015.
