John Pusateri works with layers of ink, coloured pencil and pastel over soft photographic images to craft vivid, almost hyper-real portraits of owls with an anthropomorphic effect which is at once haunting and whimsical. This allusion is heightened by Pusateri's choice of titles, among them: Line Manager, The Provost and The C.E.O.

Moth forms also feature prominently in the exhibition. A meditation on permutations of form, Pusateri's series of monotypes also calls to mind his earlier highly magnified insect photographs and the processes of excavation and discovery involved in their creation.

Both moths and owls are considered keepers of a secret or shadowy knowledge - a nocturnal awareness. Furthermore, moths are metaphors for a shift or metamorphosis that Pusateri sees as eminently topical; it is undeniable, though hidden from view.
