Body in Space Theatre Company (Nelson, NZ)

It's visiting hour at BATs Theatre with improv on the inside! Inspired by hit TV show, Orange is the New Black, the Body in Space Improv Troupe will invent three female prisoners based on audience suggestions. Who will you end up rooting for in this dog-eat-dog world?

Body in Space is a Nelson-based improv troupe that has been producing their monthly improv show, The Deep End, for four years. From the company that brought NZIF Into the Light and The Map comes a show from which there is no escape.

Body in Space Co-artistic Director Daniel Allen has over twenty years of theatre experience, mostly on stage performing in scripted or improvised theatre, but he has also entered the worlds of teaching, writing and directing. Dan became a central figure with Christchurch's professional improvisation troupe The Court Jesters in his seven years with the company from 2003-2009. He transferred these skills to Nelson from 2010 and now directs his own comedy improvisation show The Deep End on a monthly basis at the Theatre Royal. Daniel feels blessed to be co-directing Body in Space with his partner in life and art, Lisa, and is happily married to her and living in Nelson city.

Dan directed The Map and Star Seed (Body in Space) and The Emperor's New Clothes (Court Theatre) in 2014. He was the Co-director of the first ever Nelson Fringe Festival this year and is currently directing Mary Zimmerman's 'Metamorphoses'.

The New Zealand Improv Festival serves up a smorgasbord of improvised theatre to Wellington, New Zealand, all performed by the country’s top companies and practitioners. With 20 shows in just five days, there's something for everyone - comedy, horror, music, poetry and more!
