What is HypnoBirthing?
HypnoBirthing is a comprehensive and empowering birth preparation course that teaches you and your birth-companion practical techniques to achieve a deeply satisfying, relaxing and stress free birth. HypnoBirthing embraces the innate wisdom of how to give birth that is already within you. It allows you to work in harmony with your body and your baby so that your experience of your baby’s birth is one of feeling calm and connected.

How Does it Work?
Hypnosis is a state of deep mental and physical relaxation that allows you to focus on a thought or feeling to such a degree, that it is possible to block out distractions and negative thoughts. The intention is to replace fear and the expectation of pain with the expectation of a safe, gentle and easy birth.

Going into an altered state of consciousness is something that we do most days… whether its being engrossed in a great book or daydreaming – even when you are driving (its when you have driven somewhere and then realised you have no conscious memory of doing so!)

Using visualisation and breathing techniques, you are taught how to hypnotise yourself so that you can create a new experience for each aspect of the birthing process; such as imagining your baby gently easing downward with every deep breath.

A new vocabulary is created with you and your birth-companion to help break the modern association of ‘childbirth and pain’.

On a physiological level there are also a number of explanations as to why HypnoBirthing makes such a difference. When we feel fear, we release stress hormones which cause muscles to contract and can hamper the birthing process. Conversely, being deeply relaxed supports uterine contractions and helps to release endorphins and serotonin, our feel-good hormones so that muscles relax so helping to reduce pain.

The Role of the Birthing Companion?
Your birthing companion is your advocate and spokesperson so you don’t have to be in your ‘thinking mind’, allowing you to remain in a relaxed state for as long as you choose. They will also learn different massage techniques to help you remain relaxed. This technique also has an extraordinary impact on your birthing companion, they are an integral part of your preparation for birth and the process itself, creating a beautiful bond and experience of connectedness.
