HOY in the City

If you can’t get down to the Hawke’s Bay A&P Showgrounds to experience HOY first-hand, HOY in the City is a series of programmes, activities and events where the city gets behinds the HOY with a sideshow of fun and games celebrating all things horsey.

The ‘HOY Box’ is a pop-up information box situated at the Hastings Clock Tower, open every afternoon from 12pm to 4pm during Horse of the Year and late night Thursday 19 March. Find out about all things Horse of the Year.

HOY in the Square
19 March 3.30pm - 5.30pm
On Thursday 19 March a wee taste of Horse of the Year will come to Civic Square. With dressage, trick riding, ponies and more, HOY in the Square is the perfect introduction to the delights of Horse of the Year.

HOY at the Hastings City Night Market
19 March 5pm - 9pm
Following on from HOY in the Square is a special Hastings City Night Market with ticket giveaways, a pony-tail fashion show and other horse-related hijinks.

Key facts about NZ horses in WW1. Leave a commemorative message on our board that will be posted online and shared with The Friends of Bess and NZ Defence Force.

Make a Horse Montage
Hastings Library
Montage art station set up from 16 to 23 March. Make your very own piece of art using old horse magazines and breed catalogues, scissors, paste, and posterboard. Children can cut out photos and make horse montages to take home.
