Waka Experience invites you to discover the gourmet delicacies, stories and history of Te Matau a Māui – the Hawke’s Bay region. Let your senses be wowed as we take you on a unique culinary and cultural journey across Hawke Bay on board our waka called Te Matau a Māui, a traditional Polynesian sailing Waka. We will set sail with a traditional karakia and waiata. As we cruise the crystal clear waters of Hawke Bay you will dine on ten mouth-watering indigenous dishes, created and prepared on-board by our talented chef Gretta Carney. The menu is inspired by the very best produce, gathered from our gardens and forest, collected from our rivers, seas and sky. Each dish comes with the story of its history and significance to local indigenous people which our crew will share with you throughout the voyage. The crew will also entertain you with stories of local legend, point out special landmarks, and share their own personal accounts of voyaging throughout the Pacific. They’ll even sing the occasional song. By the end of the voyage you will have an appreciation for indigenous local cuisine, Hawke’s Bay and our local Māori history.

F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic is the very best of Hawke’s Bay’s food and wine, served up in a series of unique events and experiences, set in truly stunning locations. A chance to get up close and personal with the clever people that make up New Zealand’s food and wine scene. F.A.W.C! Summer Series celebrates the start of summer and all the seasonal goodness that comes with it.
