Esplanade Day is back in 2015 - prepare yourselves for another wonderful family day out.

Victoria Esplanade will once again come alive with a fantastic mix of live entertainment, activities, food, culture, and family fun!

Esplanade Day will showcase a variety of community groups and local organisations, as well as local and national performers, bands, and dance groups. It is a great opportunity to learn and get involved with some of our local organisations and support our local talent, while enjoying a relaxing day in the park!

There will be plenty of food to taste and stalls to browse around at Esplanade Day, as well as endless entertainment for the kids - free bouncy castles, horse rides, amusements, face painting, balloons and much more!

There are two stages - in the Kidz zone off Fitzherbert Park Road and Market Zone near Victoria House. There is music and dancing all day between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on both stages and in particular there are the following bands performing;

Mat Enright is a musician that plays music. He writes music and eats music, then sings it back out while playing the guitar! Blues, Folk, Soul, and Swing are among the styles that can be expected. From playing on the carol truck as a kid with the brass band to playing in working bands of all kinds in the Wellington region for the past few years,
Mat recently completed a project to play 365 solo performances in 365 days,

D.A.D.S. is a Swing Blues Band.
The most authentic ‘20s and ‘30s experience you’ll get this side of the naughties - a 4 piece act featuring vocals, clarinet, trumpet, guitar, bass saxophone, bass drum and hi hats, DADS make a toast to the intoxicating old world mélange of New Orleans Swing/Blues that will get fingers clicking and feet stomping!

"Oi, bom dia! Bossa Legal, or "cool Bossa" in Portuguese is a local jazz group bringing the sounds of South America to the Manawatu. With a line-up that includes voices, flute, saxophone, vibraphone, acoustic guitar, double bass and real Brazilian percussion instruments the band explores the smooth, romantic sounds and gently syncopated rhythms of 1960s Brazil. Tudo bem!

An exciting addition this year is "The Biggest Little Circus Show" - Zane Jarvie, Degge Jarvie and Imogen Stone combine their skills and passion for juggling, circus and physical performance to create their own epic street theatre show. Zane and Degge were born into juggling. “We have been juggling longer than I can remember, I blame it on my parents,” says Zane. Over the years they have become among the best jugglers in the country performing nationwide, winning the Iron Chicken (for best kiwi act) at “The World Buskers Festival 2015” and the making it to the final of “New Zealand’s Got Talent 2012.” They enjoy bringing humour into their highly skilled juggling,.

Imogen Stone has been involved in performance arts from a young age and is known for her musicality and physicality. While still at school, she performed professionally for corporate events from Auckland to Dunedin, until an invitation to tour with “Circus Aotearoa” along with Zane tempted her to run away to the circus in December 2012. “Touring with a Big Top circus was a lifetime experience, truly unforgettable.” says Imogen. This summer she will be fresh from training overseas bringing her new exciting skills to “The Biggest Little Circus.”

“The Biggest Little Circus Show” is a high pace, high energy and incredibly engaging show. The show includes everything from juggling, adagio, fire, unicycles and of course circus aerials. The show is compact in set-up, but big in skill and presence! It is perfect for small or large spaces, events, or festivals. See www.lancewoodevents.co.nz for full run sheet

So make sure you and your family get down to Esplanade Day and make the most of this exciting event.
