Empathy in Education: Think and act differently when faced with complex challenges.
Empathy is critical to tackling education-based and personal challenges. Empathy is more than standing in someone elses’ shoes – its about understanding their view of the world, their perceptions, their emotions and their real needs.

This unique workshop is designed to increase your capacity for Empathy and confidence in Empathic communication - with a particular focus on the use empathy to solve challenging problems. During the workshop you will:

Set the agenda by identifying the education-based challenges that are relevant to you. For example, reducing “behaviour challenges” among students or increasing engagement with whānau.

Be coached and supported through techniques that create better relationships, better learning and better centres and schools, and;

Experience a memorable day of learning and growth.

This workshop is designed to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your children/ students and your colleagues. If you are currently working in a preschool, kindergarten, primary or seconday school and you want to learn new ways of dealing with complex challenges – this workshop is for you.

This workshop is facilitated by Stefan Sohnchen and Dean Sutherland.

Stefan has worked in the education and High-Tech sectors in Germany, the UK and NZ. Most recently Stefan has teamed up with the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries to develop a curriculum to enhance creative confidence capabilities.

Dean has worked in the education and commercial sectors in New Zealand, Australia, Sweden and the UK. Dean currently teaches at the University of Canterbury and facilitates workshops on communication and relationships in families, and within educational settings
