This course was previously called Film, Culture and Critical Thinking.

This course runs on Wednesday evenings 6:30 - 8:00 PM over five weeks starting 14 October 2015.

Tutor: Morteza Majizadeh

This course surveys major approaches to cultural studies. It will use examples from movies and everyday cultural practices to broaden your thinking about who we are and how we understand the world around us. You will leave this course with a richer sense of what 'cinema' can do as a socio-political form of communication and how movies can reproduce, alter or resist dominant discourses of power.

Week 1: Ideology and Cinematic Representation in Film Interpretation
Week 2: Fact or Fiction: The Narrative of Films, Documentaries
Week 3: Gender and Sexuality in Cinema
Week 4: The Fourth Cinema: Multiculturalism and the Silenced Voices
Week 5: Ecocinema: Films in the Age of Climate Change

Our Mission: To provide quality adult and life long learning opportunities which empower individuals in their personal lives and as members of society.
