Join us for an evening of cinematic stargazing with Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision.

Featuring fantasy, advertising, film trickery and documentaries, we’re looking at the inspiration of space in film and the giant leap movies have made in the past century.

The discussion includes 10 short films exploring space through the genres of animation, fantasy, documentary, and television, spanning from 1902 – 2005.

Films featured in this talk and screening include 'A Trip to the Moon' (1902) by George Méliès, 'Soviet Sputnik' (1958) by George Eibey, an advertisement from the 60's: 'Bananas - they're out of this world', excerpts from the Moon landing in 1969, as well as Kiwi film clips.

Celestial Cinema, Wednesday 26 August, 7:00 – 8:30pm.
Bookings essential – Call Space Place at Carter Observatory on 910 3140 to reserve your seat.
