Airpark Canterbury WR Christchurch City Billiards Open

This is Christchurch's ... and `Airpark's first World Ranked Level 1 Billiard Championship ever !

And .... World #1 ... Peter Gilchrist will be here for the three days playing in this Tournament.

Peter Gilchrist is the only person living with 2x 1000 competition breaks to his name ... 1,346 and 1000 exact.

Peter Gilchrist. representing Singapore will be the top seed for this event. It has been said that this Gentleman is Billiard's answer to ... non other than Richie McGaw ... that is the warmth and respect that he holds on the Billiard table and amongst his opponents.

Talking of opponents, and highly world ranked competitors, we will have from Australia, Todd Hayward (no relation to last year's 2014 NZ Open Billiard Champion and Kiwi Grant Hayward) and from India the much respected Sushrut Pandia. The UK will be represented by Andrew (Andy) Draper.

Now, New Zealand will have their very own `strong' Challengers. The two standouts have to be 2x NZ Champion Peter DeGroot, who incidentally has won NZ Titles in Snooker. Pool and Billiards which in itself is a `magic achievement'.

Also from Christchurch is ... Gary Oliver .. current and 12x New Zealand Billiards Champion, and an NZ Open and ClubsNZ Champion who also has New Zealand's highest break of 303. While that break won't scare Peter Gilchrist, Gary Oliver is capable of putting century breaks back to back. This is his home turf as well so if ANY of the World Class Internationals don't handle the superb playing conditions ... make no mistake, Oliver and DeGroot will hurt them.

How many Sports in New Zealand do get actual... World #1's ... ?

The New Zealand Billiards and Snooker Association (NZBSA) are indeed the envy of many other NZ sporting codes.

For this reason alone, and thanks to `Airpark Canterbury' , the South Island and especially Christchurch, should be out in force to watch such talent on display over the three days ... Billiard / Snooker tables do have a magnetism about them.

Entry is free. Because this is a `Club' it is best when visiting to get a Club Member to sign all your party in.

Where there are World Class Sportsman, you will find Administrators and Referees of that same calibre and this will be no exception. New Zealand is well respected in this area but we will need .. and we will have, some International Referees here for this Tournament. One special International referee that should most definitely be named is ... Mr Steve Cowie. This modest man has "a Queens Medal" for 'Bravery in Sea Rescue' .

While there, have a `sneak' go at what you have watched while the players are at lunch .. and enjoy all the excellent facilities that the Woolston Club provide.

By the way, all these `Champions' are approachable ... introduce yourself, ask questions .. pick your `favourite' and follow him through the Tournament.

When leaving Christchurch for an air trip, there is no place better than `Airpark Canterbury' for security and care of your vehicle while you are away.
