Hear Air New Zealand staff past and present share stories from their time with the airline. Featuring Captain David Morgan, Norm Thompson, Richard Williams and Caroline Kells.

This is the first of four talks by experts from Air New Zealand about food, fashion, planes, and more.

Captain David Morgan

David Morgan joined Air New Zealand in 1985 after a career in general aviation. After flying various aircraft types on both line and training operations David joined the Flight Operations management team in March 1996. As Chief Flight Operations & Safety Officer he is responsible for determining the policy, procedures and standards by which Air NZ aircraft are operated. He is also responsible for sustainability at the company.

Norm Thompson

Norm Thompson worked for Air NZ for 45 years, holding senior management positions during the airline’s most dramatic highs and lows. His most recent role was Deputy CEO, which he retired from in 2013.

Throughout his career he worked in a wide range of roles – including finance, sales and marketing and management. In the 1970s, one of the customers he dealt with personally was Sir Edmund Hillary. Until his retirement he was also Chairman of the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand, the Air New Zealand Environment Trust, and Altitude Engineering.

Richard Williams

Richard joined NAC in 1950 as an Administration Clerk and went on to hold key marketing positions until he retired in 1996.

His roles included public relations, advertising for both NAC and Air New Zealand, Air to Air photography, designing and setting up overseas trade shows, and managing the airline’s visual identity programme.

Caroline Kells

Caroline Kells joined the company in 1970 as an NAC air hostess. She held various roles in Wellington airport before becoming a Lounge Host in 1990, a role she still holds. She has welcomed thousands of customers into the lounge and is now greeting the third generation of some families. In 2010, Caroline was selected by the CEO to attend the Airline of the Year awards in Singapore.
