Do you like to play with words? What words come to mind when you think of the Wairarapa – its spirit, land, history, and peoples? Come and tell us on Sunday 18 October at Aratoi Museum (11-1pm) and the New Zealand Pacific Studio Artists’ Residency Centre (2-5pm) (www.artistresidency.org.nz), in Mount Bruce. Established multimedia artist Marie Potter, the NZPS 2015 Friends of Aratoi Fellow, wants to meet people of all ages and create a ‘Wall of Words’ together.

Don’t miss Potter’s artwork on Aratoi’s windows and her ‘Mr and Mrs’ installations inside the Museum, from Friday 16 October, the opening of Kokomai!

Marie E. Potter is a multi-media artist who explores New Zealand's cultural and social history. She not only interrogates the traditions and rituals of early N.Z. European settlers (particularly from a female perspective), but also the status and significance of everyday objects and their material qualities which are loaded in history. Her work embraces the genres of installation, assemblage, photography, sculpture, sound and writing.

A Finalist in the 2014 Wallace Art Awards and the 2014 National Contemporary Arts Awards, Potter will install a Wall of Words on Aratoi Museum windows and will also exhibit ‘Mr and Mrs’ installations inside the museum for the Kokomai opening on October 16.

Marie Potter will also engage with intermediate school students and community organisations to create more Walls of Words.

These activities are supported by New Zealand Pacific Studio, Friends of Aratoi, and the Masterton District Council Creative Communities Scheme.
