The concert features former Wanganui resident Matthew Yu now living in Auckland and returns to add to his previous concert performances since 2011, to play Mozart’s ‘Piano Concerto No.23’ as an invited feature soloist with the orchestra. This concerto is one of Mozart's most engaging works, with a bubbly finale that always raises the listener's spirits.

His last performances have been outstanding successes and of the highest calibre dubbed “World Class” in last year’s review of his presentation of Beethoven’s PC #5. The local audiences have received him with thrilled enthusiasm to much acclaim, which will no doubt be equalled this year.

Featuring earlier in the same programme will be Fumiko Koshikawa, presently attending Wanganui Collegiate School Student, away from her home in Japan, now in her last year at the school. She started the violin at 4 years of age, returning to Japan at the end of this year for university to study for a career in medicine. She is working towards her ATCL this year and the opportunity to solo with orchestra will round out a year of superb achievements.

She is to play Ralph Vaughan Williams poem inspired 'The Lark Ascending' which according to the FM Classics Hall of Fame comes out on top as Britain's favourite piece of classical music, made even more popular when Nigel Kennedy performed it with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the 2013 Last night of the BBC Proms, broadcast live to air. It is a gently crafted a beautifully delicate work with a nostalgic romance for violin and orchestra.

On the same programme the orchestra will play, Alexander Borodin’s "In the Steppes of Central Asia" and Amilcare Ponchielli’s "Dance of the Hours.
