A festival to celebrate and support Old-time Appalachian Mountain music and dance in New Zealand.
Traditional tub-thumping and hollering fiddle and banjo driven string band music, sweet old-time songs and harmonies and spooky mountain ballads.

On the Schedule:
Workshops in fiddle, banjo, guitar and Appalachian dance. A slow session after the workshops where participants can practice what they learned. Old-time open mics. A concert headlined by Sawmill, a NZ Old-time string band featuring the special guest fiddler from West Virginia, and the best NZ OT musicians. A Barn Dance hoedown. Prize for the best male and female old-time outfit. All night jamming! A mountain style gospel sing on Sun morning.
The Sat night concert and dance is open to those who would like to just come for the evening so that locals can come to enjoy this unique cultural experience.

This year we are very excited to have Andy Fitzgibbon, a fiddler from West Virginia as our guest artist. Andy studied with the old masters of the fiddle in the WV region and has won numerous awards for his fine fiddle playing. He will joined by Helena Faust, Liam McKenny, Don Milne, Jim Doak, Silvia Carlyle, Andrew Bicknell and others, teaching, jamming, performing and having a great old time.

The Old-time genre encompasses mountain fiddle and banjo music and songs, unaccompanied ballads, mountain gospel, shape note singing, as well as some early country/blues and cajun.

Warn in house accommodation, cafe, hall and wine bar. There are living rooms and kitchens in each wing of rooms. All facilities are wheelchair access (big).
