Art work created 200km away in Whanganui will be on display at Taupō Museum this month. The exhibition is a mix of digital media and fine arts from eleven graduate and emerging artists from Optiv101 Fine Art and Multimedia Studios.

The name of the exhibition, Optiv101 Two Hundred, reflects the boundaries art crosses, and to be in Taupō is a test of performance for the works in capturing another audience, the exhibition’s curator and Optvi101 studio artist Esther Topfer says.

The artists featured have works that combines a variety of social and identity themes, including popular culture , feminism and cultural identity, surrealism, and history. It will feature paintings, prints, casted glass, mixed media, and digital media.

Members of Optiv101 Fine Arts and Multimedia Studios include artists with fine arts qualifications and emerging artists who operate outside a training institution but under mentorship. “We welcome the opportunity to show how Optiv101 works, and to share our social commentaries with the Taupō community,” Esther said.

She would like to thank the Taupō Museum and Taupō District Council, and Mainstreet Art and Framing, Whanganui, for supporting the exhibition.

The Optiv101 Two Hundred opens at Taupō Museum on 18 January and runs until 18 February. Taupō Museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free to children and Taupō district residents with proof of address.
