Travel with Steam Incorporated north from Kapiti via the spectacular Manawatu Gorge to Dannevirke. As a special attraction both a steam locomotive and heritage diesel locomotive will share hauling the train.

Outbound the train will be hauled by our 1957 era restored diesel electric locomotive Da1431. At Dannevirke we will meet up with our Art Deco excursion train that has arrived from Napier and being hauled by steam locomotive Ja1271. It will be a busy time at Dannevirke while the two locomotives swap trains. Steam loco Ja1271 will haul the Viking Express on the return sector back down to Paekakariki.

Seating will be very limited on this excursion as most of our carriage fleet is being used by the Art Deco trains running during this weekend. With only 110 seats available this excursion will sell out quickly. All seating is pre allocated. The train will include an open air viewing platform.
We will not have our usual buffet car on the train. A small range of soft drinks, water and snacks will be available for purchase from the guards van. You are welcome to bring your own food on the train.

At Dannevirke the main shopping street, cafes etc is just a couple of minutes walk from the railway station.

The return train fare ex Kapiti Stations is adult $129 and child $89. There are fare reductions if joining at Levin or Palmerston North.
