Walk 2

With one eye on the tide, take a coastal ramble from Russell town leading up to the high point of Tapeka, where breathtaking 360′ views of the bay await. With a dramatic cliff, outcrops of rocks and a lighthouse, Tapeka is a main navigation point for vessels arriving in the Bay of Islands. Capture the feeling of history on the return walk with a visit to the legendary flagpole felled by Hone Heke and his warriors with views over Russell township.

You must be at the Walking Weekend HQ (The Duke of Marlborough Tavern) 30 minutes before your walk starts for registration and briefing. A disclaimer will need to be signed prior to your first walk.

For those of you who love food!
“Food” is the Bay of Islands premier food festival, the culinary festival has a stellar line-up of chefs, restaurants, producers, wineries and breweries. Every half hour there will be cooking demonstrations from local culinary producers. And of course live music. Food is an open event so it’s open to everyone, walkers and non walkers, as long as you are hungry you are advised to attend! No entry charge.
