Fundamentals of people management
- The role of the supervisor
- Management theory
- Management roles and responsibilities

Manager characteristics:
- Communication style

- When to manage, when to lead
- Developing leaders in your team

Managing staff:
- Brief catch ups vs. set meetings to review performance
- Addressing issues and reinforcing good work with staff
- Subjective vs. objective reporting
- Performance management and disciplinary processes

Managing the team:
- Having objectives and creating the plan
- Team culture by design or osmosis
- Running team meetings
- Building a positive working environment
- Being a colleague but remaining the manager

Relevant legislation:
- Employment Relations Act
- Taxation

At the end of this MIT Business Course for SMEs, you will:
