Storylines

The Storylines Festival Family Days are a breeding ground for this generation's Margaret Mahy or Joy Cowley, or indeed for the next Eleanor Catton! But more than that, they are the place where our children and their families and our authors, illustrators and storytellers share the magic of our stories, right here and now.

Storylines Free Family Days are magical days where writers, illustrators and storytellers come together to meet children and their families and share the ins, outs and upside-downs of New Zealand stories.

The second South Auckland Family Day is on Saturday 30th August at the Vodafone Events Centre from 10am - 3pm and we have some great activities lined up for you!

We have an exciting line up of authors / illustrators coming along:
- Author Vasanti Unka The Boring Book who is one of the New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards 2014 winners
- Graphic Novelist Ant Sang from bro'Town
- Local author David Riley with books appealing to teenage readers…We Are Rock, Steppin' with Benji Marshall and Off Loading with Sonny Bill Williams.
- Illustrator David Elliot The Word Witch.
- Fantasy author Martin Baynton creator of The WotWots!
- Young Adult author David Hair The Aotearoa series.
- Te Reo Singalong creator Sharon Holt.
- Non-Fiction author Jill MacGregor Children of the Pacific series.
- Local illustrator Raymond McGrath It's Not A Monster It's Me.
- Award-winning Australian author Gary Crew The Watertower, Lost Diamonds of Killiecrankie

We also have shiver your timbers with NZ's ultimate rotten pirate entertainer Captain Festus McBoyle (master of music and mischief), along with Doctor Samuel Thickwickett and the infectious Ida Crumpet.
Joining us this year will be Pacific Village with performances to accompany the sale of books, CD's and other amazing things!

The day is full with great experiences and areas with activities to try such as face painting, Artists in Action - our Illustrators Gallery, Pure Capital Thinking Factopia, Scholastic Books Out Aloud where you can hear you favourite books read aloud!

Some of our local Manurewa schools will be performing. There's something happening all the time through out the day. Helping you with what's happening will be local Principal Phil Palfrey as our MC for the day!

We look forward to seeing you there!
