“Black and White” is Rob Joass’ 2nd solo album, coming a mere 18 years after his debut release “Rainlovers”. In the interim he hasn’t been totally idle, having toured extensively with both Hobnail and The Shot Band. Rob has also recently been touring with Too Many Chiefs, a songwriting showcase also featuring Laura Collins, Wayne Mason, and Andrew London.

Hobnail's most recent album, “Baggage” received great reviews, and the title track was finalist for Best Country Song at the 2013 Tui's. Their previous album, “The Fortune Horses” earned unanimously excellent reviews and was a finalist for best folk album at the 2009 NZ Music awards. “Wellington’s excellent Shot Band” (NZ Musician) has earned rave reviews for their studio and live work. Rob’s “Dead In The Water” from their 2006 self-titled album was a finalist for APRA 2006 Country Song of the Year.

Rob has earned praise for his songwriting throughout his career, and has had songs covered by bands in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, with Edmonton’s Captain Tractor including “Maria’s Last Words” (from the Hobnail Boots album “On With The Show”), on their album “North of the Yellowhead”. Christchurch’s Katie Thompson also recorded “Dead in the Water” for her most recent album.

Long time cohort Hamish Graham contributes drums on “Lost at Sea” and “Kiss Goodbye Another Year”, while Wayne Mason plays piano on both of those songs and Hammond organ on “The Winter Bells”. Harmony vocals on this song come from Laura Collins and Andrew London, making it a bit of a Too Many Chiefs production.

Hamish will join him as well as Kim Bonnington & Cameron “Dusty” Burnell, together all forming "The Hard Core Troubadours".
