Double Bill with Tiny Hearts Tour

Winner of the 2013 Bell Award for Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year and runner-up in the 2013 National Jazz Awards, Steve Barry has established a reputation as one of Australia’s finest pianists since moving to Sydney from his native Auckland in 2009.

Steve’s debut album was released in 2012 to wide critical acclaim, receiving a 4 star review in The Australian. He is currently undertaking a PhD at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Steve’s performance credits include John Hollenbeck (USA), Theo Bleckmann (USA), George Coleman Jr. (USA), Chris McNulty (USA), Arun Luthra (USA), Yoshio Suzuki (JPN), Tricia Evy (FRA), The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, Dale Barlow, Jamie Oehlers, Sean Wayland, James Muller, Andrew Dickeson and Andrew Gander. He has performed across Australia and New Zealand as well as in the United States, Japan, France, Italy, Samoa and New Caledonia.

Tonight Steve’s trio presents a preview of new original compositions from a new record set for release in the coming months.

‘The trio’s creative empathy was immediately apparent on tunes such as Epiphany, where the musicians eschewed a clear rhythmic focus for a diaphanous, drifting feel, shifting our attention seamlessly from one player to another with each glistening chord, reverberant bass note or softly padding mallet.’ - The Melbourne Age
