Cresswell - The Clock Stops (new commission)
Macmillan - Woman of the Apocalypse
Macmillan - The Confession of Isobel Gowdie

James Macmillan - conductor
Jonathan Lemalu - baritone

We welcome pre-eminent Scottish composer James MacMillan back to conduct two of his own works: his widely acclaimed requiem The Confession of Isobel Gowdie, and his 2012 concerto for orchestra, Woman of the Apocalypse. Both offer startling portraits of women. From the shocking burning of Isobel Gowdie as a witch in post-reformation Scotland to evocations of paintings inspired by the women in the Book of Revelation, MacMillan’s music cuts straight to the core. The compelling voice of Jonathan Lemalu is also sure to command our attention in a new commission, The Clock Stops, from New Zealand-born and Scotland-based Lyell Cresswell. In this exciting concert, the best of contemporary New Zealand music meets the best of contemporary music worldwide.

Concert duration: 1h26m
