St John’s in the City and St Andrew’s on the Terrace, Wellington, are together organising a huge, 24 hour Musicathon at St John’s in the City to help make water available in Palestine.

In Palestine, water is only part of the long and disputed history of a land where peace is but an echo. In the dry summer months when Israel turns off the taps, water is delivered by tankers that navigate the military checkpoints that hinder daily life. The costs can triple and water is severely rationed by families with little income. Without peace and control over the West Bank’s own water there is only one alternative – water tanks. The Department of Service to Palestinian Refugees is helping families build water tanks and share the possibility of peace.

We will be playing continuous music over a 24 hour period in St John’s Church, of a wide variety of types – classical, jazz, rock, folk, Christian and secular, amateur and professional, children and adults. The common ingredients are commitment, passion and enthusiasm!

The music will be programmed so that you will know when the musicians are performing and when those you know and love are on stage. There will be some great listening and you can listen for free.

The money will be raised in three ways:
- Sponsorship by the hour of the whole 24 hour event
- Sponsorship of individual performers by the minutes they perform
- If you love what you’re hearing, you can also contribute a koha

Performers and other supporters will have sponsorship forms to complete in advance of the Musicathon and will collect contributions afterwards.
