The Mangere Bridge Trolley Derby is coming back. This is our THIRD year running, and we're planning even more racing fun this year. We'll be running the same course as last year on Taylor Road, however with a little bit more distance added to it extending the course.

Racing kicks off from around 9:30am, running through to around 3pm (depending on final entry numbers), taking place on Taylor Road, Mangere Bridge.

If you didn't get around to building yourself a trolley you can still take part in our "Have-A-Go" Trolleys on the day. These will be running at selected times throughout the day, and for a gold coin donation, you'll get a chance to have a run down the hill in some of the trolleys.

And kids, make sure to bring along your togs and towel too - there will be a massive Slip-And-Slide set up, along with a Bouncy Castle, Coffee Cart, and Mr Whippy, plus the Mangere Bridge Cubs and Scouts Group will have Fundraising Food Stalls selling Popcorn, Candy Floss, Cakes and loads more. Bring along a picnic lunch and make a day of it.

Check out our website and Facebook page for more information.

The trolley derby is all about getting children and adults working together as a team, designing and building a soapbox cart. Culminating in a family fun day to help celebrate their work, where entrants get to race and display their trolleys.

The event is open to everyone - little kids, big kids, and adults. If you can build it, you can race it. Kids, get a parent, uncle, neighbour or grandparent to help you out. Adults, you can build a cart and race it yourself, or why not get a corporate team together at work and build and race it together.

We want to help encourage positive adult role models for youth in the community by providing a project that a child and adult can work on together - whether it's a Mum, Dad, Grandparent, neighbour, Uncle, or Auntie helping out.

We'll be providing trolley build clinics every Saturday leading up to the event, with experts on hand to help you out, so even if you've never built anything before, we'll help you sort your Phillips head from your Allen key.

Corporate teams and adults are also encouraged to enter with the Monarch of the Hill category, so if you think you've got what it takes get building now.

Why a trolley derby? We believe the journey is as important as the destination. Trolley Derby's help promote families and loved ones to work together, with adults teaching youngsters how to design, build and develop a cart, along the way teaching each other planning, workmanship, team work, sportsmanship and the sense of accomplishment in building something with their own hands.

All culminating with a family oriented community day where we can celebrate the completion of the project with a day full of good spirited competition - with races to see who's built the fastest soapbox racer, a show & shine, and some great prizes for Style-Meister: Open to any age group. Be creative with your trolley design and make it a complete package by creating a co-ordinated costume and you could be in with chance to win the style-meister award

Plus we really want to encourage the good old Kiwi No.8 wire attitude with a prize for Backyard Brilliance: Open to any trolley built on a budget of $200 or less.
