Zouk has captured the hearts of many people around the world and has been called "the dance of love". With its strong, flowing movements, Zouk attracts people who are generally strong and grounded, and looking for a dance that emphasizes interdependent partner interaction.

Zouk-Lambada as it is often referred to, is a sensual partner dance with origins in Lambada (aka "the Forbidden Dance"). In Antillean French Creole, Zouk means party! The music that we dance to has evolved with the introduction of various genres of music such as hip hop, R&B and pop that have similar rhythmic structures and danceable components.

Zouk is known best for flowing motion and upper body movement (i.e. body waves), giving rise to the woman’s dramatic “hair flicks”. The dance is close with an intimate partner connection. Dancers often deviate from the general rhythm to allow for musical interpretation. The pace of the dance is generally slow and smooth.

The result is that it is beautiful to watch, and extremely fun to dance.

In this course we will teach you a contemporary Rio-Zouk style that is popular and easy to freestyle. This course would suit first time dancers, beginners, improvers and experienced dancers who understand the importance of the basics. Dancers of other genres will enjoy the styling and options Zouk can offer.

Course will run from July10th, 2014 until October 1st, 2014.

Your first class is free so you can find out if Zouk is a dance you might enjoy. Thereafter, class costs $10 casual for the evening or $50 consession cards available for six sessions that must be used within the course duration.
