2014 Insight Focused Therapy (IFT) Education Series.

What is IFT?

Insight Focused Therapy is an exciting new integrative model of counselling developed by Pauline Skeates -Therapist/Trainer of Auckland New Zealand.

IFT is a therapeutic model which draws from the latest salient discoveries in neuroscience research and mindfulness studies. These, together with concepts from Attachment Theory, Coherence Theory, Developmental Theory, and Polyvagal Theory are integrated into a cohesive and practical therapeutic process.

You will find this method is simple to use and inspiring as it empowers you towards life changing personal revelations and insights. Insights that have sustaining impact on all levels of relating.

Simply put, the IFT process, with its focus on acceptance, kindness and compassion assists in calming the reactivity of the fight and flight response so that in the stillness of acceptance, new insights can emerge.

You begin the IFT process by first turning the focus of your attention to the presenting issue in a mindful way - curious, loving, open, accepting and kind. The acceptance, compassion and kindness inherent within the IFT process calms and sooths your anxious and defensive automatic responses. With focused attention on your present moment awareness, you follow the trail unfolding before you, noticing and describing as you go. And along the way, you are gathering, collecting and organising lost and disassociated implicit memories, integrating them into a coherent whole where new insights emerge. These life-defining moments usher in life-changing benefits across all arenas of your life.

Who can use it?

IFT can be used by therapists, mentors, coaches, advisors, and people-helpers. It can also be used as a personal development tool. In fact, anyone can use this loving, open and accepting inner dialogue.

The research of Friedrickson (2010) shows that even a minimum of eight minutes of mindful-awareness practice per day will be registered positively within your mind/brain dynamic. This has been measured as an increased sense of wellbeing across all the arenas of life.

Components of IFT.

In our training you will learn aspects of the latest neuroscience research drawn from experts such as: Siegel, Schore, LeDoux, Cozolino, Porges, Kabit-Zin and others, together with the principles of Attachment Theory, Fixed Point vs Emergent Living, Coherence and Clean Language Theories, biological principals and spirituality.

You will also learn how to use the principals of IFT to take mastery of your life and make the most out of what it is to be human.
