This Te Papa touring exhbiition features framed photographic prints and several large photographic murals of images taken by Alfred Burton of Burton Brothers Studio in Dunedin during a winter cruise to the South Pacific on the Union Steam Ship Companys SS Wairarapa in 1884.
Extracts giving a flavour of the time are taken from Burton's diary along with newspaper comments and and the company's excursioni booklet are also on display.

Pacific viewpoints provide another set of voices, expressing a contemporary response to the images from leading Pacific scholars and writers across the island nations.
