It is no surprise that the notion of terroir was developed in Burgundy. The complex fragmentation of the vineyards, the nature the varieties that acutely reflect where they are grown, results in terroir being vital to an understanding of the region as a whole. With a myriad of producers cultivating tiny land holdings - some vineyards are just a few rows - Burgundy is frustratingly complex. But this, the most romantic of regions, rewards the persistent; the fragrant, haunting beauty of a great Burgundy is an experience that lingers long in the mind and on the palate.

In this tasting we will focus on one of the largest sites in the Cote D'Or - Clos Vougeot. Covering over 50 hectares Clos Vougeot is divided up in to many parcels and is owned by many different producers. Becuase of the sheer size of Clos Vougeot the soil types and positions on the slope are extremely variable, and as a result so too are the wines! We have selected four producers for this tasting and we will try one historic wine and a more recent wine from each producer. A great opportunity to taste some wines from our cellar!
