You are invited to come to and enjoy Cantando’s forthcoming concert, featuring Fauré’s Requiem and Elgar’s Te Deum & Benedictus. Cantando is also privileged to have internationally renowned organist, Timothy Noon, accompanying them and performing an organ solo.

Timothy Noon was appointed organ scholar of England’s Canterbury Cathedral at the age of 17. He has performed as a soloist across Europe and his talents include composing, arranging and singing. In 2011 he became Director of Music at Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Fauré’s brief requiem is written for organ, mixed chorus and two soloists. Soprano, Jayne Tankersley and baritone, Ian Campbell, are well-known in the Waikato and will ensure you’ll have a very enjoyable evening.

Fauré’s Requiem seems gentle and unassuming, yet it is this very quality of understatement which contributes to the work’s universal appeal. Composed in 1888, the Requiem departs from the usual focus on God’s judgement and inclines towards human tenderness. Fauré stated “my Requiem does not express the fear of death … I see death as an aspiration towards happiness above”.

Elgar’s Te Deum and Benedictus have become a mainstay of choral tradition, conveying a grand, festive nature. Fantastic moments of praise are sharply contrasted with more introverted periods, as the text turns prayerful.

Tickets can be purchased from choir members or contact Theresa 07 8558789 or theresaguzzo@gmail.com
