Georg Eggner, violin
Florian Eggner, cello
Christoph Eggner, piano
Amihai Grosz, viola

Freshness, vitality and romance from three brothers who have been playing together since childhood: and this time joined in New Zealand by one of the finest violists today, Berlin Philharmonic Principal Viola Amihai Grosz.
Much-loved in New Zealand, the family trio of Georg, Florian and Christoph Eggner return to this country with Amihai Grosz to perform favourite piano trios and quartets.
The Eggners are based in Vienna, but have a strong connection to this part of the world: in 2003 they won the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, which launched their international career, and the last time they were here they gave a concert as a fundraiser towards Christchurch earthquake relief. Now, on their fourth visit to this country, they have their name firmly established as one of the most “exhilarating” ensembles of the day.
On this visit they bring with them a friend. Amihai is Principal Viola of the Berlin Philharmonic and one of the founding members of the Jerusalem String Quartet.
The Auckland concert begins with Mozart’s first piano quartet followed by Beethoven’s famous ‘Ghost’ trio and finishing with Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E flat, created full of romantic love for his beloved Clara in his greatest chamber music year of 1842.

Mozart | Piano Quartet № 1 in G minor K478
Beethoven | Piano Trio in D Op 70 № 1, ‘The Ghost’
Schumann | Piano Quartet in E flat Op 47
