Chamber Music New Zealand presents Eggner Trio with Amihai Grosz

Artists
Georg Eggner (violin)
Florian Eggner (cello)
Christoph Eggner (piano)
Amihai Grosz (viola)

"Artists of supreme musicianship." - Sydney Morning Herald.

Much-loved in New Zealand, the family trio of Georg, Florian and Christoph return to this country with top viola player, Amihai Grosz, for some of our favourite piano trios and quartets.

The Eggners are based in Vienna, but have always had a strong connection to this part of the world: in 2003 they won the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, which launched their international career, and the last time they were here they gave a concert as a fund-raiser towards the Christchurch earthquake relief. Now, on their fourth visit to this country, they have their name firmly established as one of the most 'exhilarating' ensembles of the day.

On this visit they bring with them a friend. Amihai is Principal Viola of the Berlin Philharmonic and one of the founding members of the Jerusalem String Quartet. Together they come from triumphant performances which included the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Wigmore Hall in London. The programme begins with Mozart, naturally, the first piano quartets ever written, considered by some still to be the loveliest. Beethoven's famous 'Ghost' trio follows and they finish with the apex of the romantic quartets - Schumann's Piano Quartet in E flat, created full of romantic love for his beloved Clara in his greatest chamber music year of 1842.

Programme One
Mozart | Piano Quartet ? 1 in G minor K478
Beethoven | Piano Trio in D Op 70 ? 1, 'The Ghost'
Schumann | Piano Quartet in E flat Op 47
