Auckland Young Professionals is delighted to announce our next event with Fady Mishriki, CEO and co-founder of PowerbyProxi, a New Zealand technology company who aims to "displace the humble power plug" by designing and supplying products for wireless power. For most, the concept of delivering power wirelessly is the stuff of science fiction – but when Fady Mishriki and Greg Cross founded PowerbyProxi in 2007, their focus was to identify real world customer pain points and match them with a solution they could not deny.

Getting unplugged, getting rid of masses of cables under desks and in planes, trains, and cars has been the stuff of science fiction. But with companies like PowerbyProxi refining their passion and technologies focused on getting unplugged, this dream is becoming a reality.

Only a few years ago, PowerbyProxi was a start-up based in The Icehouse, the University of Auckland’s business incubator with three men and a great idea, It was founded in 2007 by Fady Mishriki, Bachelor of Commerce and Engineering graduate together with seasoned entrepreneur Greg Cross. Today, PowerbyProxi has offices in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour and in Cincinnati, Ohio, US. The company employs 20 staff and is actively looking to hire more good engineers.

In 2013 PowerbyProxi received $4 million in investment from smart phone giant Samsung, But is also planning to raise further $30-40 million in the second half of 2014 to fund growth and also opening offices in Taiwan and Texas. With recent talks of potential sharemarket listing, you know that PowerbyProxi is going places and going fast. This is the company to watch very closely in the upcoming years and AYP is very excited about welcoming Fady Mishriki later this month. Special thank you to Lowndes Jordan for graciously hosting us at their beautiful Viaduct offices in PwC building.
