Nic Moon discusses her practice and the Ranui Library Project where Nic will integrate art in to the new library with the sculpture The Great Forest at the heart of the building.

The central focus of the piece is a series of five well-used shovels incised with native plant leaf skeleton from local trees. Locally sourced clay will be used to paint trees on the interior wall. Thousands of handprints will fill the tree images, creating a soft textured effect.

The artist has collaborated with Lars von Minden from Jasmax to incorporate the theme of The Great Forest into the building's architecture with forest-inspired patterns on the floor and the steel exterior canopy.
