Childbirth Education Course

At Hibiscus Coast Parents Centre we offer courses run by a trained childbirth educator (CBE) to provide parents with information, birthing options and some practical and hands-on activities in preparation for labour, birth and the early days of parenting. Our antenatal courses are usually seven sessions long and we occasionally run an intensive weekend course which takes place over two days and one evening. All of our courses are held at the modern Pohutukawa Room at the Whangaparaoa Library. Our courses are very popular and fill up quickly, so feel free to call as early in your pregnancy as you like to register your place. Our childbirth education course covers essential topics such as :

- Mother's anatomy
- Optimal foetal positioning
- Pelvic structure
- Pelvic floor muscles
- Signs of labour and warning signs
- Premature birth
- Stages of labour
- Birth Plans
- Interventions
- Informed decision making

- Birth videos
- Medical pain relief options
- Role of pain in labour
- Self help methods
- Breast feeding
- Life with a newborn
- The newborn and postnatal mother
- Postnatal depression
- Unexpected outcomes
- Relationship changes

Registration for the Childbirth Education Course costs $210 and also includes:
- A practical parenting session - where you will learn the practical side of parenting such as bathing a baby, appropriate bedding, nappy changing, health after birth, hospital stay, contacts available for help and information about products and gifts.
- Car seat safety
- Parent Panel - your chance to hear experiences from other new parents.
- Baby and Child CPR course

- Baby and You Course - over 5 sessions, topics include play & development, breastfeeding
- 1 Year's membership to the Parents Centre - the largest network of parents in NZ, which has many additional benefits.

New parents who attend our childbirth education classes form strong friendships as they go through this exciting stage in life together.

Coffee groups are set up for new mums to catch up regularly to share what's happening with their new baby, vent, support each other and most importantly laugh.
