Te Rūnanga-Ā-Iwi-O-Ngāpuhi is the host for the biennial Ngāpuhi Festival and aims to deliver a world-class indigenous event right in the heart of Ngāpuhi.

2014 will be no exception with artists and participants coming from all over the globe to take part in the 2014 Ngāpuhi Festival.

The Ngāpuhi Festival is a mix of arts - performance, contemporary and traditional - fused with culture - Ngāpuhi culture. The theme for 2014 is Ngāpuhi Reaching Out to the World.

Toi Ngāpuhi, the arts festival, is the centrepiece of the Ngāpuhi Festival. Toi Ngāpuhi features more than 40 invited Māori artists of Ngāpuhi descent or affiliated to other Tai Tokerau Iwi who prepare work especially for the event. Some of the artists are considered to be in the top echelon in their disciplines. People like clay artist Manos Nathan whose recent works combine his mother's Greek culture with his father's Māori culture.

In line with the Ngāpuhi Festival's theme, Toi Ngāpuhi has invited 50 international indigenous artists to take part in making 2014 one of the most ambitious, but memorable global events staged right here in Aotearoa.

The Ngāpuhi Festival also hosts wananga - a series of forums to listen, learn and engage with cultural experts and practitioners of Ngāpuhitanga (Ngāpuhi culture). Favourite topics include Ngāpuhi tikanga and reo, and 2014 will include contributions from our international guests.

Over 100 stalls will also set up at the 2014 Ngāpuhi Festival. Everything from traditional kai, arts and crafts, to marae, whānau and community stalls, as well as corporate exhibitors.

The line up includes the Honour Matariki Collaboration (Maisey Rika, Ria Hall, Whirimako Black and Betty Ann Monga), Sons of Zion, Paua, Soljah and much, much more. Go to the website for more.
