In this exhibition over 50 paintings have been chosen from the gallery’s permanent collection to be hung in a style reminiscent of ‘the Salon’ and inspired by Johan Zoffany’s The Tribuna of the Uffizi. This selection of work engages with ideas of looking and seeing as transmitted through the traditions of portraiture and assembles a myriad of conversations and perspectives. The gathering of work from different eras, styles and schools highlights the richness of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery’s collection and aims to provide both unexpected juxtapositions and pleasurable pairings.
