Andrew Leathwick’s star is fast ascending and the prodigiously talented pianist is sure to delight as he fills our galleries with classical music at Sunday Sounds.

Recently named the University of Waikato’s Creative and Performing Arts Person of the Year, 20-year-old Andrew already has many other awards to his name including the 2012 University of Waikato Concerto Competition, the acoustic section and performance award at the 2012 University of Waikato Lilburn Trust Composition Awards and first prize in this year’s NZ National Concerto Competition, where he also won the audience choice award and junior jury prize.

Andrew also has a passion for composing, which he is studying at the University of Waikato alongside piano. He is currently on the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme, through which he receives coverage of his tuition costs, and is a recipient of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Greenlea Trust Scholarship and Adastra Scholarship.

Sunday Sounds at the Museum showcases a diverse range of styles and genres guaranteed to wind up your lazy Sunday with a concert on the first Sunday of every month until March 2014.

A Collaboration between Waikato Museum and Hamilton Live Music Trust. Supported by Momento Cafe and gratefully funded by the Creative Communities Scheme administered by Creative Waikato.
