In keeping with ancient traditions, in which the day began at sundown, the day of the Summer Solstice begins at sundown on our December 21st. In the northern hemisphere it is the Winter Solstice. At Stonehenge Aotearoa we have put together a special presentation to mark the Solstice: 'The Gate of the Gods and the Star of Bethlehem'.

What was the 'Star of Bethlehem', and who were the 'Three Kings' and just who were those 'shepherds watching their flocks by night'? In this presentation we look at the astronomical events and their astrological meanings that formed a foundation stone to one of the world's great religions.

The programme includes a shared meal and, weather permitting, viewing the Sun set over the Summer Solstice Heel Stone. Time can also be made available for ritual.

Bring a plate if you want to join the shared meal.
