The Summer Do Art School is the longest running mixed media art school in New Zealand and is proudly hosted in January every year in beautiful and inspirational environment at the Quarry Arts Centre in Whangarei.

With a long history of professional art courses lead by tutors who stand out in their field of practice the Summer Do offers 7 and 3 days courses over a variety of media and disciplines.

We invite you to join us by enrolling in one of the hand-on courses on offer giving yourself the opportunity for you to learn something new or perfect your techniques in a stimulating and fun course in our supportive, social and encouraging environment.

The Summer Do also includes evening informal talks by participating tutors and relaxed evening activities.

7 day courses:
Painting: Sense of Place – with Scott McFarlane
Ceramics: Creating a Individual Multiple – with Brendan Adams
Wood: Turning, carving & surface embellishment – with Graeme Priddle
Darjit Sculpture – with Kobi Beck

3 day courses:
Jewellery: An introduction to working in silver – with Brian Adam
Printmaking: The art of etching – with Mark Graver
Alternative Painting – with Mandy Thomsett-Taylor
Conceptual and Installation Art - with Rod Garrett
Pizza oven and intro to Earthbuilding – Henery Mackeson

Booking:
Register your interest in any of the Summer Do courses by contacting the Quarry Arts Center. We will send you more information about the course content and materials lists, then, once you are sure you want to do the course you will be asked to secure your booking with a deposit and then in due course full payment.

Accommodation:
Campsites are available onsite at a cost of $60.00 per person for the duration of the Summer Do. We can also offer advice on local, low cost accommodation, or may be able to assist billeting with local students.

Participants:
Summer Do courses are for students 18 and over. A Summer Do for younger people (7 to 17 years) runs from the 14th to the 18th of January. Open to beginners and experienced participants.
