A Bare Knuckle All Acoustic Throw Down with The Tami Neilson Trio, Hopetoun Brown, Arch Hill Volunteers

Throw Down - To make something happen in a big way, perform well, brilliantly, with virtuosity. To fight and win. To drink - a lot.

Snakeskin Suitcase – A dynamite infused gig bringing the best of New Zealand’s Americana acts to Auckland. Curated by Callum Gentleman

After a wee break sipping whiskey Snakeskin Suitcase is back with one of their best nights yet. It’s a bare knuckle all acoustic throw down. No mics, no amps, no sir. Nuthin' gets in between the musicians and your ears. But it gets better. Instead of your normal ol' 1st 2nd 3rd band on scenario, the acts tonight will be playing in rounds. Each artist gets 3-4 songs before handing the baton on to the next group. All three acts will be playing for the whole gig! To take on the challenge of this unplugged event, we've had to get in some classy acts. Our guests can easily fill the room with their voices alone. The audience is in for a treat when these musicians throw down (Tami's the bookies favourite to win - just don't tell the boys)

Tami Neilson is the real deal! She was singing in her family band before she could walk, and now can boast being the two time Best Female Artist in the NZ Country Music Awards and three time Tui winner for Best Country Album. Buzzing with raw energy and talent, her music is a hybrid of acoustic torch and stripped-bare country blues. From haunting ballads of heartbreak and irony to foot-stomping, hand-clapping, harmony-infused numbers, Tami’s live performance is one to be remembered.

“…Alarmingly good...” – Graham Reid, Elsewhere

“Neilson sings her heart out, recalling a cross between Roy Orbison and Patsy Cline…” – Grant Smithies, Sunday Magazine

Hopetoun Brown are used to playing raw without amplification, yet they still fill every room with their big sound. Horns wail, boots stomp, voices holler.
Nick Atkinson & Tim Stewart put the funk into Supergroove as that iconic band's horn section. Here the true brilliance of the pair is laid bare for all to hear as they play the blues like no one else in town.

Arch Hill Volunteers is the name for Brendan Turner & Sam Prebble's new monster. The name is new, but these gents know how to throw down and have been doing so in various guises all around the country. The head honchos from Bond Street Bridge & Bat Country come together to play dirty sweet folk tunes with the snarl of a punk band.
