Drawing/movement weekend with Rena Czaplinska-Archer

26 and 27 January 2013, 10:00am - 5:00pm

"We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are." - The Talmud

Freehand drawing is an athletic activity. It involves the body and mind. It releases tension and tunes our perception. It develops our ability to see, feel and listen.

During this weekend we will use simple somatic principles to awaken the senses and tune the body to develop what philosopher Merleau-Ponty calls incarnated perception. We will explore how this changes the way we see and becomes visible in our drawings. Using charcoal, ink and oil pastels on paper we will explore our inner and outer landscape of the beautiful Soul Centre gardens. Both beginners and experienced drawers are welcome.

Rena Czaplinska-Archer is a practicing Australian architect who teaches design and drawing at the Architecture Faculty of Sydney University and conducts popular weekend drawing workshops. Rena believes that movement is a fundamental element of life, design and any creative process. She has been a lifetime student of art, Anna Halprin's Art/Life process and other somatic practices including Feldenkrais, yoga, BMC, CI and Continuum. Rena integrates these experiences offering inspiring workshop programs that helps the participant to shift from their habitual ways of moving, thinking and seeing, awakens the eyes and releases the natural impulse to draw. Rena is a member of Body Conscious Design. Her teaching method called Embodying Vision integrates sketching, mindfulness and movement.
