What is it about?
The idea of a Photo Walk is about taking photos and meeting new friends with the same interests, particularly for people who are interested in Mobile photography (taking and editing photos with mobile phones / tablets). Photos that were taken are then shared via Instagram.

If you are not an Instagram user: You can still participate in the photo walk, meeting new friends and finding out about mobile photography and the instagram community.

Instagram is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services. In April 2012, it was announced that over 30 million accounts were set up on Instagram.

The Instagram community is spread throughout the globe and each country has their own local group, connected to hub, called Instagramers. What they do is they feature member's photos, have a photo contest and meet up for photo walk.

NZ Instagramers called "igersnewzealand" will have the 1st photo walk or what we call the “InstaWalk” on the 23rd November 2013. It will take place at the GLOBALfest Rotorua. Best photo will be featured on igersnewzealand account on Instagram and receive a prize, supported by the Multicultural Council Rotorua.

Who should attend?
People who love taking photos and meeting new friends should definitely come. You don't have to be an Intagram user to join the photo walk. You will meet new friends and find out about the art of mobile photography (taking and editing photos with mobile phones / tablets). You don't necessarily have to take photos with mobile phones, you can use any cameras, even film camera!

What to do on the photo walk?
We will meet up at the Multicultural Council's tent at the GLOBALfest, at 12pm. Starting with a chat with other photo walk participants and taking a group photo. Then we will go around the GLOBALfest, visiting different cultural tents either in groups, pairs or even by yourselves to take photos of diverse cultures for about 1 hour.

You are welcome to taste and enjoy the ethnic food, join in games and other activities, and partake in the customs and nuances unique to each culture represented there, just like visiting them in their own country.

We will meet again at the Multicultural Council's tent at 2pm and talk about how to upload your photo to Instagram and win the best photo.

How to win the prize for best photo?
To enter the competition, you will need an Instagram account. It’s easy to setup an account if you haven’t had one.

Upload the photos that you have taken from the Photo Walk into instagram and make sure that you tag your photo with #igersnewzealand #photowalknz

The best photo will be announced on igersnewzealand on Instagram and receive a price from Multicultural Rotorua.
