Three-quarters of the New Zealand String Quartet will present this lunchtime concert on the NZSM's Mt Cook Campus.

With first violinist Helen Pohl unavailable for this performance, the concert will feature Douglas Bielmann (violin), Gillian Ansell (viola) and Rolf Gjelsten (cello) playing works by Bach and Beethoven.

Rolf will perform Bach's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello in C, BWV 1009. This is the third of six solo cello suites each of which has a similar form: seven movements, the first a Prélude followed by six dance-form six movements: in this instance Allemande; Courante; Sarabande; Bourrée I; Bourrée II and Gigue.

The trio of players will perform Beethoven's String Trio in G, Op 9, No.1 - an early work from the Classical composer. It has four movements: i. Adagio - Allegro con brio; ii. Adagio, ma non tanto, e cantabile; iii. Scherzo – Allegro; and iv. Presto.

The New Zealand String Quartet are senior lecturer and Artists in Residence at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music.

Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music is a joint enterprise of Massey University and Victoria University of Wellington.
