NZSM lecturers Inbal Megiddo (cello) and Jian Liu (piano) present a concert of works by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

In addition to Rachmaninoff's Cello Sonata they will be playing two works that are arrangements and transcriptions of his works. "The first, Vocalise, was originally written for voice," explains Inbal, "and the second, Melody, originally written for piano. Both highlight the vocal nature, lyricism, and beauty of Rachmaninoff's writing."
"From a pianist’s perspective," Jian adds, "the programme is quite a challenge both musically and technically. The accompaniment to the sonata is one of the most difficult written, with countless notes like his piano concertos, but it’s also one of the most beautiful cello sonatas in the repertoire, full of great Rachmaninoff harmonies and melodies."

Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music is a joint enterprise of Massey University and Victoria University of Wellington.
